FixSA Privacy Notice

The short version: we collect as little as practical, use it only for the purpose you chose, and do not sell subscriber or donor information.

01

Who is responsible

FixSA’s email signup remains disabled until the responsible party’s accurate legal name and suitable public service or postal address are added here. FixSA is not represented as a registered NPO, PBO or government body.

Privacy, access, correction, deletion and objection requests can be sent to fixsaza@gmail.com.

02

The information we keep

For the FixSA Dispatch, we keep your email address, the topics you selected, confirmation and consent dates, and the version of the consent wording you accepted. We do not ask newsletter subscribers for a name, telephone number, identity number or residential address.

After a confirmed address is synchronised to Resend, FixSA’s local consent ledger removes the readable address and keeps a pseudonymous fingerprint, provider contact reference and the consent record. Resend retains the address as needed to deliver the selected email and honour unsubscribe choices.

Security controls may use short-lived, pseudonymous fingerprints to slow automated abuse. FixSA’s privacy-friendly audience counter records page totals and rotating daily visitor identifiers; it does not keep full IP addresses, advertising profiles or cross-site browsing histories.

For contribution reconciliation, FixSA keeps only the amount, currency, Yoco checkout and payment references, payment status and timestamps. These records help confirm completed payments, investigate errors and keep financial records; they do not include card or online-banking credentials.

03

Why we use it

We use newsletter information to verify your request, send only the FixSA topics you selected, maintain your preferences, honour unsubscribe requests and prevent repeated unwanted contact. Messages may occasionally include voluntary requests to support FixSA, as disclosed when you subscribe.

Providing an email address, choosing topics and making a contribution are voluntary. If you do not provide an email address and confirm it, FixSA cannot send the weekly Dispatch; you can still read every public page. Choosing not to contribute does not limit access to FixSA’s public work.

04

Email and payment providers

Resend will process email delivery and suppression information on FixSA’s behalf. When contributions are enabled, Yoco processes them on its secure hosted checkout. FixSA never asks for or stores your card number, CVV or online-banking password.

A contribution is separate from newsletter consent. Donors are not automatically placed on an email list.

Resend may process email-delivery information outside South Africa. FixSA uses the provider subject to contractual privacy and security safeguards and the cross-border requirements of POPIA. Yoco’s own privacy terms apply when you choose to leave FixSA for its hosted payment page.

05

Retention and your choices

Unconfirmed signup requests expire after 24 hours and are removed after a short security window. Active subscription records are retained while you subscribe. When you unsubscribe, FixSA retains only the minimum consent and suppression record needed to honour your choice and demonstrate compliance.

Contribution reconciliation records are normally kept for five years from the relevant return or tax period, in line with SARS record-keeping requirements. They may be kept longer only when required for an audit, dispute, fraud review or another legal obligation. After that, they are deleted or de-identified.

Every newsletter will provide a way to unsubscribe or change topics. You may also contact FixSA to ask what information is held, request a correction or object to further processing.

06

Complaints

Please give FixSA an opportunity to resolve a privacy concern first. You may also lodge a POPIA complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator or email POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.
